We are delighted to announce that Total Health Chiropractic is expanding its services to include Osteopathy, with British Osteopath, Jan-Mark Smith, about to join our team in our Amoy Street clinic.
Jan-Mark Smith
Having graduated in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Osteopathy from the European School of Osteopathy in the UK, Jan-Mark has worked both in the UK and Singapore, gaining over 11 years of specialist experience in sports injury rehabilitation and pain management. He has also specialized in cranial osteopathy, helping new-born babies, infants and both pregnant and postnatal women. He has successfully helped babies with cranial techniques for symptoms of colic and reflux etc.
What is Osteopathy
Like chiropractic, osteopathy is holistic, meaning they are concerned with the whole body, and is excellent both for pain management and improving function. Whereas chiropractors provide hands-on spinal adjustments to realign joints, optimize spinal function and improve neurological function, thereby reducing pain and relief of other ailments, osteopaths utilize a range of soft and deep tissue techniques together with both joint manipulation and mobilization.
An osteopath will spend more time examining and working with the soft tissues with stretching, massage and trigger-point therapy to complement the manipulative therapy and may use various modalities (electrical stimulation, ultrasound, dry needling etc) to complement the therapy.
Of course, both chiropractic and osteopathy are 100% natural disciplines that help the body heal without the use of drugs or surgery. Both demand a minimum of 5 years rigorous and thorough training, including areas of anatomy, biology and diagnostic training. And, of course, Total Health Chiropractic ensures that, just like with our chiropractors, any osteopath we employ will have been trained at one of the best educational institutions in the world.
When would you book an appointment
to see Jan-Mark Smith?
Jan-Mark will offer a range of soft and deep tissue techniques, joint manipulations and mobilizations. If you, or someone you know, is suffering from shoulder pain, tennis elbow, knee, hips or leg pain, sports injuries or muscle and joint pain, then it would be good to give osteopathy a try.
There are no contraindications to receiving chiropractic care in addition to osteopathy and of course vice versa. In fact, many of our present clients will be able to enjoy the benefits of trying osteopathy alongside their corrective chiropractic care.
